Although I shed a tear today listing to Laura Ling. I recall her sister Lisa sneaking WAY beyond the border in Myanmar a few years ago during the Tsunami. Oprah had her on her show with video of her defying the government's rules for foreigners. She was not caught and came away as a heroine. I think there is reason to question whether Laura was trying to follow in her sister's footsteps for a little fame with this N. Korea jaunt. She got caught, but we run to the rescue?
My comment is this: now that we have yet a similar situation at the Iran border with the "hikers".Finally the Haleh Esfandiari detention in Iran. Are we finally going to warn foolhardy Americans that they are on their own and willpay the price for slipping over borders for fame and acclaim? The good ol' USA needs to honor borders of independent countries whether we respect their regime or not. Once more we come across as arrogant.
I would like my taxes to go toward helping the hungry Americans who never leave their backyard not the ones that totter across forbidden borders..
